Balão toim cade vc Lu Mobile

Tóim, cadê você? is an affirmative action project to praise black beauty for children aged 5 to 11.

The story of Lu is presented, a girl who complained so much about her hair called Tóim that he ran away. When seeking help from her grandmother Flor, she learns about the beauty of curly hair, and when she meets Tóim again, they become inseparable friends. In addition to being an empowering tool, the story’s message helps combat discriminatory attitudes in our society, as it helps children with the most varied physical characteristics to understand their beauty.

The project has financial support from the State of Bahia, through the Culture Fund, Cultural Foundation of the State of Bahia, Secretariat of Culture and Secretariat of Finance.

Workshops

In addition to learning about the history of identity issues and promoting the appreciation of the aesthetics and corporeality of African curly hair, the workshop for creating the character Tóim from the child’s own perspective brings to reflection how she interprets her own hair and contributes to the perception of your identity.

It was wonderful to provide accessibility and hold one of the workshops in Libras, with the interpretation of Eurides Nascimento, for the children at CAS/BA – Training Center for Education and Service Professionals for People with Deafness Wilson Lins.

Braided Day

This activity gave the children a moment to rediscover the beauty of their curly and frizzy hair. After watching the video that teaches how to make easy hairstyles for children, they took even more ownership of their features and created hairstyles to enhance their beauty and curly identity

The Author

I was born in 1990 in Recife (PE), but moved with my family to Salvador in 1992. My love for reading came early through comic books. I am a designer (UFBA), a master in Design and Culture (UEFS) and a PhD student in Education at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

I’ve always liked creating stories and that’s why I’ve been combining reading with illustration in the form of books. The desire to make them came true when I created Fabrincando (2012), a book that teaches how to make popular toys. Now with Tóim, where are you? I hope children realize that all hair is beautiful. And you? Have you ever needed to apologize to your hair? To see more drawings or send a message is easy! Just write to: tamires@toimcadevoce.com.br or access Instagram @tamilima_ilustra.
